Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes
National Museum of Fine Arts, housing an imporatant collection of Brazilian art from from 19th and 20th centuries, and Italian and French masters of the 17th to 19th century. One of the most important modernist Brazilian painters Candido Portinari is well represented here.

Museu Arte Sao Paulo (MASP)
An excellent selection of western art, though hardly any Brazilian artists. Visit the basement for contemporary Brazilian photography exhibits.

Built in 1896 as a Fine Arts school, it now displays some of the best art from 19th and 20th century Brazil.
