As you plan to visit the vast wetland that holds one of the most diverse collection of species in the world, you may wonder where amongst the jungle and swamps you can stay and not be isolated from the surrounding wildlife. East of Pocone in the region of Barao de Melgaco and 160 km from Cuiaba, this pousada provides simply furnished rooms with personal verandas, a restaurant, swimming pool and bar, and watersport rental. A great fishing location as it sits at the end of the Rio Mutum, right before it spills into the two large lakes in Mato Grosso. A wide range of tours is offered by multi-lingual guides.

This pousada is located on the river Rio Claro, in the middle of the Pantanal. Rooms are air-conditioned, the restaurant has a bar and there is also a pool. There is a large lake nearby with options for fishing and canoeing, as well as the forest with excursions on horseback or foot.

Spotting these stealthy, beautiful animals is a rare and highly rewarding treat, yet in this lodge about 25% of the visitors end up doing so! Located 68 miles down the Transpantaneira, for those who thirst to see the predator in black Satin named the Jaguar, might want to consider this as an option. This fazenda sits deep within the center of the Pantanal, providing a break from other civilization and a unique opportunity for solitude. You are picked up from the airport and taken to Pocone and then to Porto Cercado. Then you are taken along Rio Cuiaba to the farm by motorboat. The territory of this ranch if tremendously extensive; it has over 4,000 cattle. There are 10 rooms along with 5 2-floor houses: all rooms have A/C, fans, and a private bathroom. Houses also have personal small kitchens and balconies that look out over the Rio Cuiaba. There is a swimming pool and a restaurant, and right next to the Fazenda is a expansive lake for boat and fishing trips.

Reflugio Ecologico Caiman is the most acclaimed option in the southern Pantanal. It is located 236 km west of Campo Grande. There are four different lodges to choose from:
Caiman Lodge: building with 11 rooms, private baths, air conditioning, swimming pool, restaurant, living room, TV and video.
Piuva Lodge: 6 rooms with private baths, air conditioning, swimming pool, living room.
Baiazinha Lodge: this rustic lodge has 6 rooms with privates bath and terraces, air conditioning, ample living room, home-style restaurant, swimming pool and an observation tower 9 km from Caiman lodge.
Cordilheira Lodge: has 6 apartments with private bath and terrace, living room, air conditioning, swimming pool and an observation tower 17 km from Caiman lodge.

Packages include full board, horseback riding and motorboat excursions, photography safari, hikes and nighttime animal spotting. There are three outings daily, morning, midday and after dinner. The seasons and weather conditions determine the itinerary.

At the edge of the Pantanal, 30 miles from the nearest road and 160 miles from the airport in Campo Grande, this pousada offers a true wildlife experience with 5-star service. Thisis still a working ranch, though an eco-lodge for already 11 years. There are 14 simple yet comfortable rooms, an outside restaurant, swimming pool, volleyball court and even a small soccer field. Wildlife is everywhere and excellent permanent pousada guides are available; fishing opportunities are great with free boats provided.
