Rio de Janeiro
Tijuca Neighborhood

Located in the West Zone of Rio, Barra de Tijuca is a relatively new neighborhood that has some of the best spots for recreation in Brazil. This is the place to go for great jet skiing, surfing, and hiking. There are also scores of bars and restaurants along the 20 km of beach and nice campsites and self-catering budget accommodations. Barra, as the locals call it, has many possibilities for the visitor. The young neighborhood has the largest shopping mall in the city, which features over 650 shops and its own monorail system.

On the other end of the spectrum, Barra has several national parks, undeveloped beaches, and beautiful mountains. It also has one of the largest urban rock formations in the world, which shouldn't be missed. The water here is also very clean and the beaches not as crowded as Copacabana or Ipanema. The perfect waves of Prainha beach attract many surfers and there are several biological preserves along the beach that are great places for hiking and picnicking.
